When most Americans thought that the War was over, John Ripley held off 20,000 North Vietnamese troops at Dong Ha. A legendary Marine Corps leader, Ripley climbed hadn’t over hand across the bridge, placing explosives for three hours while under enemy fire. He succeeded in blowing the bridge and stopping the North Vietnamese armored column.
