SEND A PLATOON TO NAP

Image
Vandervoort knows he must send men to Neuville but how many? And who  should lead it?
"Sir, send Turnbull," Vandervoort's operations officer suggests. "He can do the job if anyone can."
"Turnbull asks nothing of his men that he won't do himself, " Vandervoort agrees. "That's the man I need for this mission".
The word passes and Vandervoort is soon telling Turner the situation.
"Lieutenant Turnbull, take your platoon to Neuville-Au-Plain. Get there as fast as you can and then hold at all costs. If there are Germans there, mop them up. Mine the road north of the town and set up the best defense you can."

Eyes narrowed, he adds, "I don't want a single German to get by you to St. Mere-Eglise."
"We'll take care of it, sir. You can count on my platoon.""That's just what I was hoping to hear. Good luck. I will do my best to link back up with you once the rest of the battalion is settled."
