MISSION FAILURE - STAY PUT

Turnbull hunkers down next to the stone wall and waits, imagining the Germans moving around in the woods in front of Neuville. The platoon can hear the stomping feet and voices to the north.
"There are a lot of Germans out there," he thinks.
The sniper fire gains in volume and Turner senses that the next attack will hit soon. Thirty minutes have passed since the tank fight.
Then a rush of small arms fire and grenade explosions sound on his right near 3rd Squad. At the same moment, the German fire on Turnbull's center line reaches fever pitch.
Turnbull starts in surprise before drawing fire and remembering to crouch. He throws himself on the ground and crawls towards 3rd Squad.

He arrives too late. The Germans exploit a gap in the line, causing chaos and confusion among the right flank paratroopers.
The situation is beyond hope when Turnbull arrives. Two German platoons sweep from east to west towards the town center.
