United States Marines arrived at Hungnam on this day, 73 years ago, after killing ten times their number in communist Chinese troops. Honor and remember the 4,385 Marines lost in this fighting withdrawal from the Chosin Reservoir.

Ten United States Marines, two US Army soldiers, and one naval aviator earned the Medal of Honor during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.

Among the recipients was Hector Cafferata, who held off a Chinese regiment single-handedly, destroying to Chinese platoons in the process, batting away multiple grenades with his e-tool, before being badly wounded himself.
