Garlin Conner earned the Medal of Honor in France when he ran across 400 yards of open campaign to direct artillery on a massive German attack, then called for fire for three hours to stop the attack, even calling rounds on top of himself to stop the enemy. Honor and remember him!
Conner’s Distinguished Service Cross was upgraded to the Medal of Honor in 2015. President Trump presented the Medal to Conner’s widow, Pauline, and his family, on June 26, 2018.
Conner fought his way through North Africa, Italy and France with the 3rd Infantry Division, earning four Silver Stars, the Croix de Guerre, the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. Conner volunteered for the mission on January 24, for which he originally received the Distinguished Service Cross.
Conner returned to his home state of Kentucky after the War, where he farmed, married, and raised a son. He was survived by one grandson and three grand-daughters, passing in 1998. Please honor and remember Garlin Conner, a tremendous leader and a great American!
