From Rochester, New York, Jacobsen joined the Marine Corps in 1943 at age 17, and had fought at Titian, the Marianas and the Marshall islands before Iwo. He received the Medal on October 5, 1945 from President Truman.
Jacobsen stayed in the Marine Corps after the War, serving in China, became a Sergeant and then earned a commission in 1954. And served until 1967, retiring as a Major. Please honor and remember Douglas Jacobsen!
