United Staes Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant William Walsh earned the Medal of Honor for his courage on Iwo Jima on this day, when he threw himself on a grenade to save the lives of his fellow Marines. Please honor and remember William Walsh!
From Boston, Massachusetts, Walsh joined the Marine Corps and fought as one of Carlson’s Marine Raider at Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Tarawa, and in the Russell Islands. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
