Wilson Watson received the Medal of Honor on Iwo Jima when killed 60 Japanese soldiers, allowing his platoon to move forward and earning the nickname the “One-Man Regiment of Iwo Jima”. He was shot seven times and hit by mortar fragments but he stayed in fight until he was hit in the neck on March 2.
Watson had fought on Bougainville, Guadalcanal, and Guam. He received the Medal of Honor from President Truman on October 5, 1945. After the War, he served in the Army, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Honor and remember Wilson Watson!
