Alfred Mac Wilson earned the Medal of Honor in Vietnam during Operation Dewey Canyon, when he threw himself on a North Vietnamese grenade to save the lives of his fellow Marines. Honor and remember him!
Wilson grew up in Texas and was serving with D/1/27; his platoon was retiring from a recon mission when it was ambushed. When the platoon M-60 gunner and assistant machine gunner were wounded, Wilson and other Marine rushed across open ground to recover the gun and get it back in action. When the grenade fell between him and the other Marine, Wilson jumped on it. Wilon’s name can be found at Panel 30W Line 035 on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
