Sergeant Troy McGill defended alone against a suicidal Japanese attack at Los Negros in the Admiralty Islands, saving a vital airstrip. He sent his remaining unwounded soldier back to a safer position, after the rest of his eight man squad had been killed or wounded, and then fought on alone throughout the night. The next morning, 105 enemy dead were scattered around McGill’s position, and he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. From Knoxville, TN, McGill was 29 years old. Honor and remember him!
