Staff Sergeant Jospeh Julian was a one man attacking force on Iwo Jima, where he posthumously earned the Medal of Honor. He destroyed four Japanese emplacements and killed many enemy troops that were pinning down his company. Honor and remember him!
From Sturbridge, Massachusetts, Julian joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school in 1942, and served as a drill instructor before going the 5th Marine Division. His parents received the Medal of Honor from the Secretary of the Navy on November 15, 1945.
The Medal and citation were presented to his parents by the Secretary of the Navy on November 15, 1945. Following the War, Sgt Julian’s remains were reinterred at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York, at the request of his parents.
