August 8 Howard Lee Medal of Honor

Howard Lee earned the Medal of Honor as a Marine Corps company commander in Vietnam, when he exposed himself to enemy fire repeatedly to direct a defensive perimeter, leading the fight for over six hours and throughout the night, despite being badly wounded, including shrapnel in his eye.

Upon leaning that one of his platoon’s had been surrounded, he and seven other Marines took a helicopter that dropped them into the platoon’s perimeter. He reorganized the defense and got them ready for an imminent enemy attack, allowing them to fight off the North Vietnamese.

From New York City, Lee also earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and went on to serve almost another ten years in the Marine Corps, before passing in 2019 at 85 years of age.  Honor and remember him!
