Platoon Sergeant Joseph Schaefer led his squad in defense against a ferocious German attack, taking the most exposed potion and capturing ten Germans himself. He then led troops in a counter-attack and freed American POW’s. He earned the Medal of Honor, presented in August 1945, and later fought in Korea. Share his story and remember this great American.
