September 27 Douglas Munro Medal of Honor

Douglas Munro put his small boat between other landing craft and Japanese enemy fire in order cover the withdrawal of 500 Marines from a Guadalcanal beach. When asked if he would lead the mission to save the Marines, he answered “Hell, yes!” Mortally wounded during the action, his dying words were, “did they get off?”

Munro received the Medal of Honor for his leadership, the only Coast Guardsman so honored. Share his story and perpetuate his memory!
