Let us honor Sergeant Jose Lopez today, who earned the Medal of Honor 80 years ago during the Battle of the Bulge, killing over 100 Germans and allowing his company to escape encirclement. Tell his story to your fellow Americans!
On his own initiative, Lopez grabbed a machine gun and protected his company’s left flank, mowing down 35 German infantry, despite an oncoming German tank and artillery rounds landing nearby. He then fell back to better cover and continued laying accurate automatic weapons fire on the Germans.
Before the War, Lopez had been a boxer and Merchant Mariner. H e was born in Mexico before growing up in Brownsville, TX after this mother passed away.
After the War, Lopez worked for the Veterans’ Administration, before passing in 2008, and a statue in Mission, TX honors him. Please remember Jose Lopez!
