Humbert Roque “Rocky” Versace, a prisoner of war, earned the Medal of Honor for his heroic resistance while in Viet Cong captivity, attempting escape four times, demanding Geneva Convention coverage, and defiantly singing “God Bless America”. The Viet Cong executed him in 1965 and his remains have never been recovered.
