November 1 Harold Furlong Medal of Honor - American Heroes Challenge

Harold Furlong earned the Medal of Honor during World War I as the Allied Armies hammered the Kaiser’s troops. After the War he became a doctor, and then served again in World War II, overseas in the Medical Corps. Honor him!

On November 1, 198, Furlong’s company attacked German entrenchments near Bois-de-Bantheville. When his company commander was killed, Furlong took command. Moving ahead of the lines, he flanked the German machine gun nests pinning down his company, methodically reducing each in turn, killing a number of Germans and capturing twenty.

American troops climb over a sandbag barrier in France during World War I in 1918. The U.S. waited almost three years before entering the war, but the fresh American troops played a major role in deciding the outcome of a conflict that has been locked in stalemate.
