Nicholas Oresko earned the Medal of Honor in Germany when single-handedly destroyed two German machine gun bunkers. He pressed his attack on the second bunker even after he had been badly wounded by the Germans in the first bunker. 

Oreseko was born in Bayonne, New Jersey to an American family of Ukrainian descent. On October 30, 1945, President Truman presented Oresko with the Medal of Honor.
