Robert James Miller, a Special Forces Sergeant serving in Afghanistan, earned the Medal of Honor posthumously on this day. While part of a combined American & Afghani patrol, Miller exposed himself to lay down covering fire that allowed the evacuation of wounded teammates. Miller aggressively attacked into an enemy ambush, killing 16 Taliban and wounding over thirty the enemy.
