February 13 Charles Long Medal of Honor

I am remembering Charles Long today, who received the Medal of Honor posthumously in Korea when he stuck to his post, directing mortar fire on to attacking Chinese troops even as it was over run. Long had fought in World War II, serving in the Battle off the Bulge, and the stayed in the reserves after the War.

Although orders to fall back, Long volunteered to stay at the post, covering his fellow soldiers withdrawal, firing with his file until he ran out of ammunition, and calling in mortar fire on his own position in his last radio message. Honor and remember him!
