George Wahlen earned the Medal of Honor on Iwo Jima as a corpsman, when he was wounded in the back and leg but refused to be evacuated, crawling 50 yards to help and wounded Marine when he was unable to walk.
Wahlen received the Medal from President Truman on October 4, 1945, and he later served as an Army officer in Korea and Vietnam, and then worked for the Veterans’ Administration after he retired. Please honor and remember George Wahlen!
